Niap

An Inuit artist from Kuujjuaq, Nunavik, Niap (Nancy Saunders) takes inspiration from objects in the Museum’s collection to create art installations presented in the gallery.

Niap

Niap is a multidisciplinary artist. Her studies at Concordia University allowed her to explore various media, including drawing, painting and sculpture. Taking an approach that merges traditional Inuit art and modernity, she addresses themes related to her ancestral heritage with artistic strategies specific to contemporary art. Her goal is to ensure the continuity of Inuit art and its renewal. Niap’s work has been exhibited in various venues including the Montreal Visual Arts Center, Oboro Center, Feheley Fine Arts Gallery in Toronto, and the Marion Scott Gallery in Vancouver.

Indigenous Artist-in-Residence

The exhibition is presented as part of the Indigenous Artist-in-Residence program in partnership with the Conseil des arts de Montréal. This program fosters transversal dialogue by allowing artists in residence to explore their artistic practices while bringing a unique perspective to the Museum’s rich and varied collections.
