Hindsight
William Hind in the Canadian West
This exhibition has ended.
Hindsight William Hind in the Canadian West showcases the detailed and brilliantly coloured paintings of William Hind (1833-1888), one of Canada’s foremost 19th-century artists. His iconic images offer rare visual documentation of the growth of the Canadian West, from Winnipeg to British Columbia. Simultaneously admired and misunderstood, Hind’s works are compelling on an aesthetic level and bring fresh insight into a significant period of our history. Hindsightis the first serious and focussed look at Hind’s western oeuvre, much of it produced during a journey to the Cariboo goldfields in 1862. It brings together works from institutions and private lenders across Canada, including many impressive watercolors from the McCord’s own collection.
