Outside the Museum

Reading Through Archives
Students analyze historic sources to discover how Montrealers lived through the Great War. When you reserve this activity, you will receive a teaching guide with a series of three educational activities:
- A discussion on the theme of war.
- An activity led by a cultural mediator from the Museum that includes a multimedia presentation based on textual archives from the McCord Museum and the City of Montreal.
- Suggested activities for further exploring the topic in French, visual arts and drama classes.
The video screened in class offers a dramatized interpretation of period archives. One by one, three Montrealers talk about their personal experiences in relation to the Great War.
The classroom becomes a forum for a rich, stimulating debate about understanding contemporary realities by looking to the past.
