Meeting the sustainable mobility challenge: How and at what cost?

Improving public transportation and mobility in a metropolitan region as well as reducing car traffic and its environmental footprint are worthy objectives. However, building new infrastructure in an existing urban area creates major challenges for quality of life, development and the urban landscape.

How can we plan and build new infrastructure that addresses current pressures and meets future needs without destroying or distorting the city and our neighbourhoods?
