To highlight the 85th birthday of Quebec musical giant Jean-Pierre Ferland, Le petit roi will be played simultaneously in Montreal and in various regions of Quebec. On this occasion, the McCord Museum welcome pianist Paulo Bottas.
Pianos in Unison are an initiative that some institutions with a public piano can participate in. Once every summer, the pianos play the same song at the same time and sounds in a range harmony.
Jean-Pierre Ferland was born the June 24th 1934 in Montreal. His notoriety will grow with the creation of the famous group Les Bozos, where he was a founder member with others big names of Quebec song movement like Claude Léveillée. The song chosen for make sounds together the public pianos, namely Le petit roi is extract from his Jaune album come out in 1970, recognized for being an album which marked the modernity and psychedelic way in the history of Quebec music scene.
Canadian-Brazilian artist Paulo Bottas is a composer, performer and musicologist. His collaborations have given special meaning to his artistic profile, expressed through original compositions that blend popular culture with the classical tradition. Sustained by formal perfection and a broad emotional range, his compositions reflect the beauty and technique of the great masters of music.
Location: The McCord Museum’s Urban Forest, Victoria Street, between Sherbrooke Street West and President-Kennedy Avenue.
