Mononk Jules

There are stories in every family that leave traces for generations, micro-myths that remain in the family microcell. We maintain them like a fire in a slow-burning stove, adding a log from time to time.

Mononk Jules tells the story of Jules Sioui, a Wendat who shook up Canadian history before sinking into an enormous hole in family and historical memory. In his attempt to understand how history is written (or how it is not written), the author finds himself facing a colossus with feet of clay.

Activity—presented as part of the 10th anniversary of the Salon du livre des Premières Nations, of the exhibition Indigenous Voices of Today: Knowledge, Trauma, Resilience and the Museum’s 100th anniversaryin French followed by a discussion with the public in French and in English.

Jocelyn Sioui

Actor, playwright and puppeteer, Jocelyn Sioui pulls the short and long threads of the story of his enigmatic great-uncle, an Indigenous hero of the 20th century.
