Words and Symbols: Indigenous Presence and Resilience

During this year’s Journées de la cultureenjoy a guided tour of Indigenous languages, words and symbols by the McCord Museum and the McGill University Visual Arts Collection.

Saturday, September 29

  • 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in English
  • 2:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. in French

Sunday, September 30

  • 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. in French
  • 2:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. in English


The McCord Museum and the McGill University Visual Arts Collection are offering a guided tour of both sites that will highlight the connections between Indigenous communities and their languages, words and symbols. With the help of artefacts, texts and works of art, this tour will illustrate the various ways in which Indigenous Peoples express themselves. It will also examine their resilience, notably as embodied in their re-appropriation of languages and traditions, and their efforts to speak out and create art.

Part of the tour will take place outdoor.
