At the end of the 1950s, the success of rock and roll overshadows the acrobats, jugglers and other artists of the magic scene. An illusionist leaves the world of entertainment in Paris to try his luck in London. Eventually, he meets a young girl who transforms his world.

Houdini by Georges Marshall, 1953 (106 minutes), in English without subtitles.

Tony Curtis plays Houdini in this fanciful film biography that follows the career of the internationally renowned illusionist and escape artist.

3 p.m.

The Magical Life of Long Tack Sam by Ann Marie Fleming, 2004 (90 minutes), in English without subtitles.

This documentary explores the world of Chinese and Western magicians. Ann Marie Fleming retraces the story of her great-grandfather, Long Tack Sam, a Chinese acrobat and magician who became one of the most successful acts of his time despite racism, poverty and other barriers. (Source: NFB)
