Contemporary Dance and Tradition

Contemporary dance, the dance of today. What relation does it have with the past, tradition and traditional dances? How do choreographers draw inspiration from tradition, use it, respect it, modernize and renew it?

Host Josiane Fortin, choreographer and researcher on the history of Quebec dance, will discuss with panelists:

  • Barbara Kaneratonni Diabo, who combines contemporary and Indigenous dance
  • Zab Maboungou of the company Danse Nyata Nyata, a pioneer of African dance in Canada
  • Mario Boucher, artistic director of the company Zeugma, Collectif de folklore urbain.
