Blue Metropolis Festival

As part of the rich and varied literary program of the 21st annual Blue Metropolis International Literary Festival, three activities will take place at the McCord Museum. Come and meet these writers of diverse languages and cultures, whose work stimulates reflection on major social issues.

Racism: a white person’s problem?

Inspired by the deliberately provocative book title, Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race, a non-fiction work by British journalist Reni Eddo-Lodge, this panel examines the historic causes behind various forms of racism.

Some communities carry within them painful stories that, increasingly, they feel—and quite rightly—they are entitled to tell themselves. But literature, research, art and imagination operate in a world of fluid boundaries. How can a creator relate, conjure up or depict other realities without betraying the communities that have suffered?
