The depression was a huge economic decline that started in 1929 and ended in the late 1930s. All countries were affected; worst hit were the most industrialized, including Europe, the United States, and Japan. Cities around the world were hit hard, especially those based on heavy industry. Rural areas likewise were hurt as prices for crops fell. Mining and lumbering areas were perhaps the hardest hit because there was little alternative economic activity. Many innocent families were heavily hit by the depression.

The Farmer family was no exception. On their rough journey through the depression they took a number of pictures. While visiting a friend a discussion changed towards family history, and my good friend told me the story of her father's family during the depression. With her help I put together a scrap book of the Farmer family's struggles during the depression, here is the story of Papa Farmer's family. (The following story is almost completely fictional, St.Andrews and Montreal do exist and there is such thing as CBC.)
