July 5 to October 16, 2006
This exhibition has ended.
The exhibition Transactions is installed along the west side of McGill College Avenue, between de Maisonneuve Boulevard and Ste-Catherine Street.
Brrrr... a chilly horse and carriage ride through the snowy streets is made a little more cozy with a ceramic muff warmer. Exotic and luminous details on a fire screen beckon you into the drawing room of "Thornhill", the elegant 19th-century Lyman residence on Montréal's McTavish Street. Later, the clink of etched cordial glasses can be heard at the dinner party for employees of Guardian Insurance.
These are just some of scenes and stories brought to life in the large-scale photographic pairings of Transactions, the McCord's first outdoor exhibition, along McGill College Avenue in downtown Montréal. Comprised of historic black & white photos from the renowned Notman Photographic Archives, and colour details of artifacts in the Museum's collections, the juxtaposition of object and image in Transactions brings forth a new appreciation for the connections which thread through our personal stories and our collective history.
