finsdesiècle@mccord

From April 20, 2000 to March 25, 2001

This exhibition has ended.

In celebration of the new millennium, the McCord Museum is presenting finsdesiècle@mccord, a multimedia exhibition that draws on the McCord's rich collection. Exploring the concepts of time and history, the exhibition invites visitors to take an intimate look at the rituals and social customs of the late-nineteenth and late-twentieth centuries.

It contrasts the lives of two fictitious young women living in the fin-de-siècle Montreal of 1900 with those of three young Montrealers living today. The links between these two worlds are illustrated through a series of common themes (work, education and family) and explored through objects, photographs, and an integrated video installation created by Montreal videographer Marie-Julie Dallaire. With this innovative exhibition, the McCord introduces a new way of looking at costume, decorative arts, photography, narration, and audiovisual techniques.

The exhibition is made possible by the generous support of the Canada Millennium Partnership Program.
