Notman, A Visionary Photographer

Clientele: primary/ secondary / welcome class
Dates: from November 4 to March 22
Duration: 120 minutes
Max. number: 60
Cost: $7,50 per student

Students are introduced to William Notman (1826-1891), one of Canada’s most important photographers of the 19th century. During the visit, they discover his contemporary approach to photography, founded on the principles of communication, management and innovation. Glass plate negatives, prints from the period, stereoscopic shots (the 3D of the time), and painted and composite photos illustrate various aspects of life in Quebec and Canada during
the second half of the 19th century.

During the workshop, students create a modern version of the composite photo, digital storytelling.
