Keys to History
The Montreal Snow Shoe Club, founded in 1840, was the first such club in North America. Not all of Notman's composite photographs were made on commission. The 1877 composite of the Montreal Snow shoe club was created by Notman expressly to send to the Paris World Exhibition. This composition, together with another made in 1872, were subsequently given to the Montreal Amateur Athletic Association.
