Keys to History
Andrew Allan is shown here with his wife, the former Isabella Smith, his three daughters, five sons, two grandchildren and two sons-in-law. Andrew and his brother Hugh, founders of the Montreal Ocean Steamship Company, were active in shipping from the 1830s onwards. The background for this composite is a photograph (heavily retouched) of Andrew Allan's house Ioneteh, which stood on Peel Street.
