Illusions: The Art of Magic Posters

Les Belles Soirées

As part of the Illusions: The Art of Magic exhibition, over 100 posters from the Golden Age of Magic plunge us into a fantastical world of marvel and wonder with imps, skeletons, women cut in two, and a thousand inconceivable tricks. In diverse styles and graphical approaches, the famous men and women magicians from the 1880s to the 1930s pose as the true stars they were and give us a glimpse into their most famous tricks.

Lecture in French by Marc H. Choko, Professor Emeritus at UQAM’s École de design in Montreal. He holds degrees from the Université de Montréal (B.A. Architecture, M.A. Environmental Planning and Design) and the Université de Paris VIII (Ph.D. Urban Planning). He has published some fifteen works on poster art, including Canadian Pacific: Creating a Brand, Building a Nation (Callisto Publishers, 2015).

Location : J.A. Bombardier Theatre at the McCord Museum.
