The next generation of chamber musicians


The McCord Museum presents some of the most promising young talent in chamber music from the Schulich School of Music. You’ll be inspired and delighted by the variety of music and ensembles at these concerts.

The Downwind Quintette
Since 2015, the Downwind Quintette has been bringing its high-energy performance style to the Montréal community. Coached by Jean Gaudreault of l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Quintette has participated in the McGill Chamber Music Competition and was selected to perform in a master class with renowned clarinetist James Campbell. The Downwind Quintette is especially dedicated to performing and promoting twentieth-century works for wind quintet, including music by Samuel Barber, Luciano Berio, György Ligeti, and Igor Stravinsky.

The Mason Quartet
The Mason Quartet is a recently formed string quartet at McGill University that began it’s musical exploration under the creative direction of violinist Mark Fewer. Since coming together, the members have performed in various settings, from temples to elementary schools, exploring the extraordinary sounds of Beethoven, Brahms and Haydn. They now continue their musical journey under instruction from professor Douglas McNabney.
