Shalom Montreal Concerts: Siach Hasadeh
Siach Hasadeh performs improvised Jewish chamber music – unique takes on early Chassidic niggunim, many of which are still sung today in Chassidic communities. With influences from jazz, classical, Turkish and Klezmer music, the approach to the material is reverential, and minimalist, yet allows for improvisation and self-expression from the voices of the musicians.
Siach Hasadeh’s program Through Fire and Water highlights these profound melodies, which lifted up and helped the survival of generations of Jews through unimaginable circumstances. The program is divided into four elements, each exploring a different musical aspect, through free form improvisation, richly textured arrangement, serialism, and simplicity of melody. Through this is told the story of the voyage of a people and its musical tradition.
Location: Victoria Street, between Sherbrooke Street West and President-Kennedy Avenue
Every Wednesday of July and August, concerts in relation with the exhibition Shalom Montreal: Stories and Contributions of the Jewish Community are presented at lunchtime in the beautiful space of the Urban Forest.
