Shalom Montreal Concerts: Shtreiml
Named for the furry hat worn by some chassidim, Montreal’s Shtreiml has been delivering high-octane, not-so-traditional Eastern European Jewish music to the masses since 2002. Eastern Hora is an enchanting and ornate collection of original music rooted in both the Eastern European Jewish and Ottoman traditions.
By their roots-rock sensibilities, Shtreiml is decidedly music from the streets of Montreal, but the group’s deft arrangements, odd rhythms and dextrous improvisations will leave you with images of the Bosphorus at sunset.
Location: Victoria Street, between Sherbrooke Street West and President-Kennedy Avenue
Every Wednesday of July and August, concerts in relation with the exhibition Shalom Montreal: Stories and Contributions of the Jewish Community are presented at lunchtime in the beautiful space of the Urban Forest.
