Shalom Montreal Concerts: Orkestra Severni
Montreal’s Orkestra Severni (“Northern Orkestra”), founded in 2009 by trombonist Rachel Lemisch, scion of the Lemisch Klezmer dynasty of Iasi of Romania, burns through an unrelenting playlist of the most heart-pounding, foot-stomping brass band music that Eastern Europe has to offer. It does so with both authenticity and vivacity, always leaving audiences with great cheer and sore feet!
Orkestra Severni’s debut album, Brass Fabulous, showcases the music of composer and pianist/harmonicist Jason Rosenblatt. With searing sirbas, freylachs galore and a sentimental waltz or two, it is a must for any aficionado of new Eastern European style music!
Location: Victoria Street, between Sherbrooke Street West and President-Kennedy Avenue
Unless otherwise indicated, concerts will be cancelled in case of rain.
Every Wednesday of July and August, concerts in relation with the exhibition Shalom Montreal: Stories and Contributions of the Jewish Community are presented at lunchtime in the beautiful space of the Urban Forest.
